Nuevo
Nuevo is a single composition carved out of 2 blocks of balsa wood. It was completed in 2008. It’s stained and varnished, stands about 13 inches tall, and sits on a polished and varnished hardwood base. This piece represents a nuevo tango moment. Although there are various, and at times, contradictory definitions of nuevo tango, the fact remains that it started to develop in the 1980s and that it differs widely from the more traditional, milonguero style of tango. Nuevo tango is generally danced in an open embrace. It also includes dramatic and often acrobatic figures that are not normally seen in milongas, or social tango events. However different from the more traditional forms of tango, nuevo tango has had an important influence in the way tango is danced nowadays.
