Bailarina cubana

Hand-carved from 2 whole blocks and additional segments of balsa wood, Bailarina cubana was completed in 2014. This sculpture is approximately 12 inches tall, varnished clear, and it sits on a varnished hardwood base. It represents a Cuban ballet dancer. The piece evokes my lifetime craving for classical ballet, a disciplined tradition of movement, which I could never completely embrace but have observed and attempted often.
