Baile del tubo
Baile del tubo was completed in 2015 out of 2 blocks of balsa wood and a base of manzanita, all varnished clear. The pole itself is an integral part of the carving, not a separate unit. El baile del tubo, or pole dance, has been around for centuries. Originally, it was closely associated with erotic dancing and striptease. Pole dancing in the US dates back to the Depression, when itinerant performers went around the country putting on dance shows to entertain their public and make them forget, even if only for a moment, the hardships of daily life. The tents where these shows took place were very small and dancers were forced to perform right next to the central pole and interact with it as best they could. These erotic performances then moved to brothels. It wasn't unit the 1990s when Fawnia Mondel, a Canadian pole dancer, popularized the dance as a sport discipline. Since then, pole dancing has spread across the world and pole dance stars, such as the Argentinian Belén Serra, have attained international fame and recognition.
