Cruzada
Cruzada was the first piece in this collection, and it was completed in 2000. It's approximately 12 inches tall, stained and varnished, and has a polished hardwood base. It portrays a tango moment called "cruzada", one of the first--but not necessarily easiest--movements learned by the tango follower. This sculpture was inspired by my own experience as a tango dancer and my love for traditional tango rioplatense. As a dancer myself, I aimed to convey in this sculpture the importance of the inner connection and interconnection between tango dance partners, a connection often misunderstood and not easily attained in tango, a connection to the music and, most importantly, to one's partner. It's this connection that allows the partners to move seamlessly as one. It creates the illusion of passion.
